TK&A’s Community Build project involves the demolition and new construction of a living space at Putnam Place in Dorchester, a group home for teen boys aging out of foster care. The renovation will include study spaces, a lounge area, a small music studio, and a woodworking studio. We hope to transform the basement of the house into a fun and functional space that will encourage conversation, nurture relationships and leave a lasting impression on the boys who live at Putnam Place now and in the future.

Construction is expected to take place in October with completion by early November. Employees of TK&A and Commodore will volunteer their time on the weekends to provide cosmetic upgrades to other areas of the house and yard. Check back often to see photos of our progress and read updates.

After months of hard work, we’ll soon be ready to turn over the renovated Putnam Place basement space to the residents who have been counting down the days until they can hang out in their new lounge, lay down some tracks in their music studio, and catch the Pats’ season opener on their flat-screen TV.

Staff from Tsoi/Kobus & Associates, Commodore Builders and Cambridge Family & Children’s Service will pitch in to put on the finishing touches and close this project out in style at our Community Build Volunteer Day, set for Saturday, September 12. Look for photos and updates after the event!

The gloomy summer weather may have ruined some of our beach plans, but it hasn’t affected the progress being made at Putnam Place! The recycled floor is down, the lighting has been installed, and all of the electrical work is complete. Keisy has started on the millwork, which really adds uniqueness to the space. He hopes to be done in the next few weeks. The date of the volunteer day will be announced soon, so dust off those gloves and get ready to work!

The walls have received their final coats and the colors really pop, bringing life into each of the rooms.  Commodore has been working diligently to finish the flooring, bringing Putnam Place one step closer to completion.  Keep checking in to see what’s next!

Construction continues—no summer vacation here! The floors have been leveled and sealed, and the Dricore is being put down. Next up (or down, to be exact): the finished flooring. Likewise, the walls have been plastered and primed, and are awaiting their final coats. Once the floors and walls are done, it’s time for millwork—watch this space!

The transformation of Putnam Place is taking shape!  New piping and wiring have been installed, the gypsum board is up, and in the next two weeks or so, all of the floor work and painting should be complete.  TK&A-ers are already itching to get their hands dirty, ready to start on the woodwork, touch-ups and furniture moving.  Stay tuned!

TK&A was proud to receive the Circle of Friends Award at Cambridge Family & Children’s Service’s annual fundraiser/gala, held at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge. CFCS Board of Directors President Edith Rathbone presented the award to TK&A’s Mark Reed, who spoke about the project at Putnam Place. Turnout for the event was terrific, with many friendly and familiar Cambridge faces among the crowd. The awards presentation was followed by a spirited live auction to raise funds in support of CFCS’s important work in the community. We’re already warming up our auction paddles for next year!
